Our story began in 1919, when our great-great-grandfather, Michael Caine, returned from the First World War and began collecting casualty animals from local farms around Longville, Shropshire. What started as a local service soon became a vital part of the farming community.
Over the years, the business expanded and operated from several sites, including Culmington in Shropshire, Kingsland in Herefordshire, and even an abattoir in Ludlow. As the company grew and the next generations joined, the business became known as F. M. Caine & Sons, reflecting both the family name and its continued tradition of passing from father to son.
Since 1956 we have been based in Knighton, Powys, where our head office and main operations remain today. From here, we have continued to serve farmers across Mid Wales, Shropshire, and the West Midlands for more than 100 years.
In addition, we now operate a dedicated Monmouth Collection Centre, strengthening our coverage across Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, and South Wales. This investment allows us to provide faster response times while maintaining the same dependable, professional service that farmers have trusted for generations.
Through all these changes, our values have stayed the same: reliability, compliance, care for welfare, and a strong connection to the farming community. Today, under the leadership of Ben Caine — the fifth generation to manage the business — F. M. Caine & Sons continues to provide a safe, efficient, and trusted fallen stock service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
